Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Hanuman, a devotional recitation and study app by Bhaktin ("we," "our," "us"), collects, uses, and protects your information. It applies specifically to the Hanuman mobile app. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

Account information

You can chant, read, and learn every text in the app without an account. If you choose to sign in — used to back up and sync your practice across devices — we collect and store:

• Email address — used to authenticate you, whether you sign in with a one-time code, Google, or Apple.
• Basic profile identifier — a name or account id supplied by Google or Apple, if you use those sign-in options.

We never ask for or store a password.

Content you create ("your practice")

When you are signed in, the following data is stored and synced to our backend:

• Daily practice log — which days you completed a practice session.
• Recitation log — which texts you've recited and how often.
• Reading position — where you left off in each text.
• Learn progress — which verses you've marked learning or learned.

Data stored only on your device

• App settings — theme, text size, script display, and reminder preferences.
• Scripture content — the Hanuman Chalisa and every other text, bundled with the app for offline use.

If you use the app without an account, your practice log, recitation history, reading position, and learn progress remain on your device and are not sent to our servers.

What we do not collect

• No payment or financial information — the app does not sell anything in-app.
• No precise location, contacts, photo library, microphone, or camera access.
• No advertising identifiers — the app does not show third-party ads.

How We Use Your Information

• To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
• To store and sync your practice log, recitation history, reading position, and learn progress across your devices.
• To provide core app functionality and remember your preferences.
• To respond to support requests you send us.
• To maintain the security and integrity of the service and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising or profiling.

Legal Bases (EEA / UK Users)

Where the GDPR applies, we process your data on the basis of your consent (signing in and syncing your practice), performance of a contract (providing the features you request), and our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and functional).

Sharing & Service Providers

We do not sell or rent your data. Sign-in is provided by Google and Apple when you choose those options; their respective privacy policies apply to that authentication. Our primary backend provider is InstantDB (Instant), which provides our cloud database and account authentication and is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Data shared with InstantDB includes your email, profile identifier, and the practice data you create (daily log, recitation log, reading position, and learn progress). If you never sign in, no third party beyond app-store distribution receives any of your data. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of our users.

Data Retention

We retain your account information and practice data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data as described on our Account & Data Deletion page. Data stored only on your device is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its storage.

Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data, such as your profile identifier.
• Delete your account and associated data.
• Export a copy of your data.
• Withdraw consent or object to certain processing.

Security

Data transmitted between the app and our backend is encrypted in transit using TLS/HTTPS and is stored on reputable cloud infrastructure with access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Children's Privacy

The app is suitable for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The optional account feature is intended for users able to consent to Google or Apple sign-in. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice.
